ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – 14th of June, 2008 – Italian multi-time World Champion Guido Cappellini set the pace all afternoon and turned in just enough of a performance to capture his 2nd straight pole position in 6 days time and will lead the field for tonight’s 6th Grand Prix of Russia the 4th Round of the 2008 U.I.M. F1 World Championship for power boating.
The pilot from Como turned in a blistering time of a 48.15 second lap around the 6-turn 2.014 kilometer course which was 2 of second quicker than his competitor from the Abu Dhabi Team Ahmad Al Hameli who looked like getting his first pole position in Russia with a 48.39 time. Both drivers are tied for 2nd in the championship with 27 points.
Third was his teammate Thani Al Qamzi trying to earn his first points of the season with a 49.00 time while Swedish driver Jonas Andersson was 4th with a 49.11 second lap.
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – 13th of June, 2008 – Team Abu Dhabi driver Ahmad Al Hameli set the pace for the first free practice session late into the evening on Friday night getting ready for tomorrow’s ¨White Night’s¨ evening Grand Prix for the 4th Round of the 2008 U.I.M. F1 World Championship for power boating at the Grand Prix of Russia in downtown St. Petersburg on the Neva River.
The driver from Abu Dhabi set a 52.27 second lap around the 6-turn circuit and was the first of two drivers to pass an early quick time of two-time winner of this event Guido Cappellini who had it for most of the session with his Tamoil sponsored boat on top and a 53.24 second lap which was eventually good enough for 3rd quickest after the one-hour session.
LAHTI, Finland – 8th of June, 2008 – Nine time World Champion Guido Cappellini proved he can still control a race by holding off four different challengers coming home to win for the first time in 2008 and his first time ever in the country of Finland to capture the 4th Grand Prix of Finland on Lake Vesijarvi in downtown Lahti for his 67th career victory.
It was the first time in 5 years that the U.I.M. F1 World Championship for power boating had returned to Finland and the driver from Como, Italy had never won in its 10 year history. From pole position the Tamoil Team driver fought off first fellow Italian Francesco Cantando as the driver on the Singha Team charged from 5th to just behind Cappellini only to launch off a large rouge wave and crash spectacularly out of the event on the third lap.
